Starting off Right!
This is the first official Post for Open arms Open minds blog site. As a Community group at Salt Lake Community College, we hope that this site can be a helpful resource to parents for years to come! We're hoping that parents who have children with learning disabilities will hear about this blog so that they can unite and talk one with another and give personal advice. The blog will give links for parents to many resourceful websites that we have seen as helpful. This will hopefully give the parents a starting ground of where to look and start for more information. We have posted some laws and regulations that we thought would be helpful for new comers pertaining to disabilities and the educational system.
Us as students are not professionals when it comes to these topics, but as we've been researching for help in the educational system we have found nearly nothing. The Salt lake school district doesn’t give too much information to confused parents thinking their child might have a learning disability. Realizing this we understood the importance of having a place where parents could go to be helped.
We invite everyone to share with us their knowledge, and help create a support system for parents in our community. Together we hope to create awareness that education is not a one size fits all and that it’s not too late for children find a love for education.
